85 seconds to midnight: Humanity on the brink

ISLAMABAD: The world is rapidly heading towards destruction, and nuclear experts have warned in clear words that humanity is now just moments away from the apocalypse.

According to the non-profit organization Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock for the year 2026 has been set at just 85 seconds before midnight, which shows the most dangerous level of global destruction.

The organization’s Science and Security Board (SASB) says that nuclear war, a new arms race and military projects in space have brought the world to a point from which it is becoming difficult to return.

According to experts, more destructive nuclear weapons are being developed and world powers are once again embroiled in a dangerous competition.

A SASB member has expressed serious concern about former US President Donald Trump’s proposed ‘Golden Dome’ project, saying that this concept of placing weapons in space could push the world towards a space war.

According to them, the project is expected to provoke a strong reaction from Russia and China, which could cause irreparable damage to global security.

Nuclear experts have also warned that if the arms control agreements between Russia and the United States are terminated, both countries will openly start accumulating nuclear weapons, which could prove disastrous for all of humanity.

Experts say that if world leaders do not make urgent and serious decisions, no one will be able to stop the hands of the Doomsday Clock from reaching midnight — and then the apocalypse will no longer be just a metaphor.
