ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the continuation of a severe cold wave across the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that the weather will remain cold and dry in most areas in the coming days, while severe cold, rain, and snowfall are likely in the upper and northern regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, a new wave of westerly winds is affecting the upper parts of the country, due to which intermittent rain and snowfall are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and northern Balochistan. The intensity of the cold may increase further due to heavy snowfall in some areas.

According to the report, rain and snowfall are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir on January 28, while light rain may occur in Islamabad, upper Punjab, and northern Balochistan.

On January 29, the weather is expected to remain cold and dry in most parts of the country; however, severe cold will persist in the mountainous areas.

During January 30 and 31, rain is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, northern Balochistan, and upper Punjab under the influence of westerly winds, while snowfall has been forecast in the mountains.

There is also a risk of road closures and slippage in some places these days.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain cold and dry in most parts of the country at the beginning of February (February 1 and 2), while a severe cold wave is likely to persist in the northern and mountainous areas.

On the other hand, most areas of Karachi and Sindh will remain in the grip of dry weather; however, cold winds and a drop in temperature can be felt during the night and morning hours. Severe cold and fog are also expected in the interior areas of Balochistan.

The Meteorological Department has directed citizens and tourists to take precautionary measures in view of the weather conditions, especially those traveling in mountainous areas, to be careful due to possible snowfall and slippage.
