DHAKA: Former Director General of Bangladesh National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Major General Ziaul Hasan was arrested while trying to flee the country.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, Major General Ahsan was caught from the plane and detained at Dhaka Cantonment.

His arrest follows his recent removal from his post, which was announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department yesterday.

Major General Ahsan, a close aide of resigned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was serving as the head of NTMC, a key intelligence agency under the Ministry of Interior.

The NTMC is responsible for national security surveillance, data collection, and recording of communications. The agency also has the authority to monitor emails, social media accounts, and phone call recordings.

Major General Ahsan’s arrest comes amid intense scrutiny of his role and actions in the intelligence community. Their attempt to leave the country has added a new dimension to the political and security developments in Bangladesh.
