ISLAMABAD: The Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment has highlighted the growing demand for skilled workers in Germany, especially nursing professionals, as the country faces a growing shortage of healthcare staff.
According to officials, Germany’s healthcare system is under pressure from a growing and aging population, leading to a steady increase in demand for qualified nurses.
International professionals are now playing a key role in meeting workforce needs.
In Germany, nurses are recognized under professional titles such as Pflegefachfrau, Pflegefachmann, and Pflegefachperson.
These roles cover general nursing, pediatric care, and obstetric services.
Nursing professionals can work in hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient care, rehabilitation centers, or palliative care settings.
Their responsibilities include patient observation, care, and support in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Foreign-trained nurses must complete a formal recognition process to practice in Germany. Authorities assess qualifications to determine whether they meet German standards.
If vacancies are identified, applicants must complete a knowledge test or undergo an adaptation period to demonstrate equivalence.
Applicants must meet several additional requirements, including German language proficiency at at least B2 level, a medical fitness certificate, and proof of good character.
Non-EU citizens must obtain a residence permit to work in Germany, as the EU Blue Card does not apply to nursing roles.
Applicants who do not have full recognition can apply for a visa specifically for recognition of qualifications or enter through a “recognition partnership,” which allows them to work while completing the process.
To qualify for this route, candidates must have a recognized qualification, a job offer from a German employer, and demonstrate German language skills of at least A2 level.
The second option is the “Opportunity Card”, which allows individuals to enter Germany under certain conditions and seek employment.
