NEW DELHI: The Indian state of Goa is considering the possibility of banning social media use for children under 16 years of age. This could be similar to legislation on the lines of Australia.
According to a foreign news agency, Indian Minister for Tourism and Information Technology Rohan Khavante told the media that several complaints have been received from parents regarding children’s use of social media.
He said that social media and some other platforms are distracting children and causing social effects.
Rohan Khavante said that a law banning access to social media by children under 16 years of age is in force in Australia. And the IT department of Goa has prepared papers and reports regarding this.
He added that this matter will be placed before the Chief Minister. And if possible, a similar ban will be implemented in Goa as well.
