Govt announces public holiday on Thursday

DUBAI: A public holiday has been declared for government and private employees on the occasion of the New Year on January 1.

The Federal Authority of the United Arab Emirates has announced this on the occasion of the New Year of 2026, Friday, January 2, will be a remote work day for employees.

According to the official announcement, all government and private employees will have a holiday on Thursday, January 1, 2026, while federal employees will work from home on Friday, but those employees whose work can only be done by attending the office will attend the office.

Celebrations will be held on the occasion of the New Year, preparations are underway for spectacular fireworks and drone shows in the United Arab Emirates, a 15-minute fireworks display will be held on a 6-kilometer-long beach in Ras Al Khaimah.

On New Year’s Eve in Dubai, spectacular fireworks, drone shows, concerts and beach parties will be held at Global Village, Atlantis The Palm and Blue Waters Island.

The Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi will feature a 62-minute fireworks display and the world’s largest drone performance.
