JAKARTA: A powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, causing panic among citizens and a large number of people came out of homes, offices and other buildings.
According to the Indonesian Meteorological Department, the depth of the earthquake was recorded at 10 kilometers, while its epicenter was located about 42 kilometers southeast of the city of Palu, Sulawesi. The tremors were so intense that people in many areas immediately fled to safer places.
According to news agencies, local administrations and relief agencies have been alerted after the earthquake, and authorities are assessing the situation in different areas so that any possible damage or emergency can be dealt with in a timely manner.
According to initial reports, there was no immediate news of any major loss of life or property, but monitoring is ongoing.
After the earthquake, there were fears of a tsunami among the citizens, but the Indonesian Meteorological Department has clarified that there is no threat of a tsunami as a result of this earthquake, after this announcement, there was some degree of satisfaction among the public.

It should be noted that Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and volcanic activity are considered a normal part of life due to the continuous movement of tectonic plates.
