TEHRAN: The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a drone attack on a Maltese-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf waters near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Iranian news agency, the IRGC claimed that the oil tanker “Prima” had been issued multiple warnings, but was targeted by a drone after it continued to ignore the warnings.

The ship that was targeted by the attack, the “Prima,” is an oil and chemical tanker that was sailing under the flag of Malta, according to the maritime traffic monitoring website “Marine Traffic.”

Iranian authorities say the action was taken in response to a violation of maritime boundaries and laws. After this incident, there is a fear of further tension in the maritime traffic and security situation in the region.
