MUMBAI: India’s renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has expressed his anger over a fake AI video, in which he is shown wearing a hat and claiming that he has finally returned to God.

Javed Akhtar strongly condemned the fake video and said that he is considering taking legal action in the matter. He wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that “A fake video is circulating in which I am shown wearing a hat on my head and it is claimed that I have finally returned to God.

This is all nonsense. I am seriously considering reporting this matter to the cyber police and intend to take the person responsible for this fake news and the few people who are sharing it further to court as it has damaged my reputation and dignity.’

It may be recalled that a few days ago, a public debate was held between Javed Akhtar and Mufti Shamail Nadvi on the topic “Does God exist?” In the debate, Javed Akhtar raised questions on honesty and religious beliefs based on rational arguments and evidence, while Mufti Nadvi gave answers in the light of Islamic teachings.

The intellectual dialogue on the topic of God’s existence is still being discussed on the internet and the stream of comments and videos on it is still going on.

Fans and social media users supported Javed Akhtar’s stance, saying that fake videos created using AI are a dangerous trend that can damage someone’s reputation by spreading misinformation.

One user wrote, “This is toxic information, thank you for pointing it out and threatening legal action.”

Some wrote, “We often disagree with your views, but here we are completely with you. This is unacceptable and immediate action must be taken.”

Social media users say that this battle between lies and truth in the digital age is not limited to Javed Akhtar, but is affecting the thinking of every user and this incident is a reminder that trusting every image and video on social media can be dangerous.
