ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) of the NDMA has issued an impact-based weather alert after forecasting severe heat wave conditions expected to affect various parts of the country in the coming days.
According to the weather advisory, a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere is likely to persist, resulting in extreme temperatures, especially in parts of South Punjab, Sindh, East Balochistan and KP.
The worst-affected cities and districts of Sindh include Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Nawabshah. Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur in South Punjab; Sibi, Naseerabad, Dera Murad Jamali, and Jaffarabad in East Balochistan; and Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bannu in South KP. In these areas, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 46-48°C, posing a significant risk of heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
The NDMA has appealed to the general public to take precautionary measures to stay safe during the heatwave, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, especially between 11 am and 4 pm, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if not thirsty, wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes and use a hat or brella when stepping out. Never leave children or the elderly unattended in parked vehicles. Check on vulnerable individuals, especially the elderly, children and those with medical conditions.
The NDMA is closely monitoring the situation and is in coordination with relevant stakeholders. The public is encouraged to follow official updates from NDMA, PMD, and provincial authorities, and report any emergencies to the local helpline or PDMA control rooms.
NDMA urged the public to stay informed about local weather conditions and follow safety advisories. For real-time updates and alerts, download and use the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application.
