RIYADH: The General Directorate of Civil Defense has issued an emergency alert for the public after the Saudi Meteorological Department predicted thunderstorms in most parts of the country until Friday.
According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, the Civil Defense has urged the public to strictly adhere to the following in view of the weather conditions: stay in safe places during heavy rain, avoid going near floodwaters and valleys, and completely avoid swimming in water that accumulates in valleys.
According to the Meteorological Department, moderate to heavy rain, hail and dusty winds are likely in the Makkah region, in addition to which there is a possibility of rain in Taif, Maysan, Adham, Tarbah, Al-Muawiyah, Al-Khurmah, Rania and Al-Arziyat.
Heavy rain and flooding are expected in various cities of the province, including the capital Riyadh, while Ad-Diriyah, Al-Kharj, Al-Muzahmiyah, Al-Quwaiya, Al-Dawadmi, Al-Zulfi, Al-Majma’ah, Shaqra and other nearby districts may be affected.
The Civil Defense has warned the public to contact the relevant authorities in any emergency situation and to avoid unnecessary travel. The public should monitor official instructions given through the media and social media platforms.
