RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and other gulf countries are celebrating Eid al-Adha today, sacrificing animals to remember to follow the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi.
Eid was celebrated throughout the region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Oman, Iraq, and among Muslim populations in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Australia.
The two holiest mosques in Islam, Masjid Al Haram in Makkah and Masjid An Nabawi in Madinah, hosted lavish Eid congregations in Saudi Arabia, drawing millions of people.
However, Pilgrims will travel to Muzdalifah, where they will collect pebbles for the symbolic stoning ritual, which takes place in Mina in the coming days.
They will sacrifice animals, shave their heads and take off their Ihram. The Saudi leadership is being congratulated on the occasion of Eid by leaders of several Islamic countries.
Earlier on Thursday, more than 1.6 million pilgrims performed the main pillar of Hajj, the Wukuf Arafa. On this occasion, a special prayer was offered for the Palestinians. The Imam of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah, said, “O Allah, make our brothers in Palestine victorious over the enemy.”
In Pakistan, the Bohra community also observed Eid Al Adha on Friday. Special Eid prayers were performed at Bohra mosques around Karachi, including Saddar, Pakistan Chowk, Hyderi, and the Baloch Colony, among others.
The day began with the traditional sacrifice of livestock, such as goats, lambs, cows, and camels, followed by the distribution of meat to family, friends, and those in need, strengthening the festival’s spirit of generosity and compassion.
