Advisory issued for citizens traveling on motorways during Eid-ul-Adha

ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a travel advisory to facilitate the citizen during Eid-ul-Adha holidays due to expected increase in traffic on major motorways.

Eight key guidelines have been issued for the smooth flow of traffic on these motorways and highways. 

The NHMP has urged the citizens to check their car’s engine oil, water level, brake functions and headlights before coming to motorways.

The authority has requested all passengers to use seat belts, and motorcyclists must always wear helmets, to avoid accidents, it is critical to adhere to authorized speed limits, especially during peak traffic hours.

Drivers should maintain a safe distance from the car ahead to allow for emergency braking, and for smooth traffic flow, drivers must stay in their lane and obey road markings and traffic lights.

On extended drives, motorists should rest every two hours and avoid driving when drowsy. Travelers should carry emergency contact information, a first-aid kit, and extra gasoline. For assistance in the event of a car breakdown or an emergency, call the NHMP hotline (130).

The Motorway Police have increased patrols and staff along important routes to promote safer travel. Additionally, all toll plazas are hosting road safety awareness programs.

FM Radio 88.6 offers live broadcasts to help with route planning and navigation, and passengers may tune in for real-time traffic reports and congestion advisories.
