Senator Abbas Afridi loses battle with injuries

KOHAT: In a tragic incident, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Senator Abbas Afridi has succumbed to his injuries on Friday, according to media reports.

Afridi was injured in gas leakage explosion that happened one day before his death with three other of his companions, as per the media reports.

He was shifted to Burn centre Kharian for medical treatment but could not recover, according to his nephew.

Funeral prayer of the deceased Senator shall be announced later on said the family member while talking to media.

Abbas Afridi was elected to Pakistan’s Senate as an independent candidate in March 2009. He was sworn in as federal minister of textile industry on March 19, 2014.

He later ran in the 2018 Pakistani general election from NA-32 Kohat as a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate, but was defeated. He garnered 44,154 votes and was beaten by Shehryar Afridi, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate.

He ran in the 2024 Pakistani general election from NA-35 Kohat as a PML(N) candidate but was defeated. He earned 58,034 votes but was beaten by Shehryar Afridi, an independent candidate backed by the PTI.

On June 25, 2024, he quit the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz to join the Pakistan Peoples Party.
