Severe snowstorm puts 190 million Americans on high alert

WASHINGTON: US authorities have issued storm warnings in various states in view of the severe snowstorm.

According to US media, about 190 million people in 37 states of the country have been placed on high alert, while more than 10,000 flights have been canceled due to bad weather conditions.

According to media reports, heavy snow, hail and heavy rain are continuing from the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and New Mexico to the Tennessee Valley.

More than 100,000 customers have lost power as a result of the stormy weather, while public transportation services have been temporarily suspended in New Jersey.

According to US media, ice storm warnings are in effect in several areas of Louisiana and southeast Texas, which has increased the risk of slippery roads and accidents.

The Emergency Operations Center has been activated in view of the emergency situation in Indiana, while a warning of the heaviest snowfall in the last two decades has been issued in Columbus.

Authorities have instructed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, follow safety instructions, and contact local agencies in case of emergency, while rescue and emergency agencies are constantly monitoring the situation while remaining on alert.
