HAIDIAN: TikTok has introduced a new feature for users, ‘Nearby Feed’, through which people will be able to see content related to places and local activities around them.
The company says the feature aims to help users discover new places in their area and access local content.
The feature was initially launched in the UK, France, Italy, and Germany. It was first tested on a limited scale in Southeast Asia in 2022, which was later halted, but has now been made available again in a few countries.
According to the company, the Nearby feed will show users videos based on their location, content topic, and post time, which may include local content related to tourism, events, and food.
This feature will also be beneficial for those posting videos because it will allow them to reach more users in their city or region.
TikTok has stated that location sharing will not be mandatory, and this option is only available to people 18 years of age or older. When location is turned on, TikTok will show location-based content via GPS.
Content from accounts with underage users, i.e., accounts under the age of 18, will not be included in the Nearby feed. Similarly, if an account is set to Private, Friends, or Only You, its videos will also not appear in this feed.
