NEW YORK: The United Nations General Assembly has endorsed the Saudi-French New York Declaration, approving a two-state solution for Palestine.

According to the World News Agency, the United Nations General Assembly on Friday overwhelmingly adopted a resolution on the New York Declaration.

The aim of which is to revive the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, but it clearly did not include Hamas.

It should be noted that for the first time, the General Assembly has directly condemned Hamas’ attacks on civilians in the attacks of October 7, 2023.

142 member states supported this declaration, but 10 countries, including Israel and the United States, voted against it, while 12 member states abstained from voting.

This resolution was presented by Saudi Arabia and France, the text of which strongly condemns Hamas and asks it to lay down its arms and release all hostages.

This resolution has already been unanimously approved by the Arab League. It was signed by 17 member states in July.

The declaration said Hamas must end its rule over Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.

So that the path can be paved with international cooperation and support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

The resolution calls for a ceasefire, an end to the fighting in Gaza, and efforts to achieve a lasting peace based on a two-state solution.

The resolution has been submitted ahead of the upcoming UN summit, which Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair in New York on September 22.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will formally recognize Palestine as a state at the summit.

Several other world leaders have also indicated their willingness to recognize a Palestinian state to increase pressure on Israel to end the war in Gaza.
