TEHRAN: A US military base in Syria has been attacked, prompting a heightened security presence in the area.
According to Iranian media, the base in the western province of Hasakah was targeted. Local sources said security was immediately tightened around the main gate of the base after the incident.
Access to the area has been completely restricted, including for media personnel, making it difficult to verify details. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Reports circulating since last night suggested that Iranian-backed militias in Syria were planning to target US military installations.
The latest attack comes amid a growing wave of resistance against the US and its allies in the Middle East, particularly after recent US strikes on Iranian targets, which have significantly increased regional tensions.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time the base has been targeted, as Iran-linked groups have carried out similar attacks in the past.
