US reiterates non-interference in Pakistan’s political leadership selection. In a press briefing, the United States State Department reaffirmed its stance, emphasizing that the United States does not play any role in choosing political leaders in Pakistan. Spokesperson Matthew Miller addressed questions about the US government’s position on supporting leaders with allegations of corruption and criminal activities globally, stating, “The United States does not play any role in choosing the leaders of Pakistan.”

Miller emphasized that the US engages exclusively with the leadership elected by the Pakistani people and clarified that the country does not interfere in Pakistan’s internal political matters. The statement comes amid Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir’s official visit to the US, where he is scheduled to meet with senior military and government officials.

The US has consistently underscored its commitment to non-interference in Pakistan’s political affairs, emphasizing support for free and fair elections. Earlier remarks by Miller in September reinforced the US position, stating that they do not support any political party or candidate in Pakistan but advocate for democratic processes.

Responding to questions about relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Miller emphasized the US’s support for a diplomatic resolution to address issues between the two nations. He also highlighted the US Treasury Department’s designation of former Afghan parliamentarians and their family members for their involvement in corruption, reinforcing the commitment to combat transnational corruption.
