MUMBAI: A doctor has been accused of assaulting a patient at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Shimla, the capital of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, and the video has gone viral on social media, sparking a huge backlash.
In the viral video, the doctor can be seen repeatedly hitting the patient lying on the bed, while the patient tries to save himself.
After the incident, a large number of people gathered at the hospital and demanded strict action against the accused doctor.
The affected patient, Arjun Panwar, said that he had come to the hospital for a medical examination.
After a bronchoscopy, he had difficulty breathing, and he lay down on a bed in another ward to take oxygen. During this, the doctor started abusing him for no reason.
Arjun Panwar said that when he tried to speak respectfully, the doctor became more aggressive. According to the patient, I only asked if he spoke to his family in the same way, to which the doctor started hitting me.
The hospital administration has immediately formed a 3-member inquiry committee, according to the medical superintendent, an FIR has also been registered against the accused doctor, and a full investigation is underway.
The administration says that if the doctor is found guilty, strict action will be taken as per the law. After the incident, there is serious concern among the public and patients, and there is also strong criticism on social media about the matter.
