ROME: A major chocolate theft has raised concerns across Europe after a truck carrying more than 12 tons of KitKat bars was stolen during transit, potentially disrupting supply ahead of the Easter season.
According to Nestlé, the shipment included over 400,000 units of its newly launched chocolate range. The truck departed from a factory in central Italy and was en route to Poland when it went missing last week.
Company officials confirmed that both the vehicle and its cargo remain untraced, and investigations are ongoing in coordination with local authorities and supply chain partners.
The incident could lead to temporary shortages of KitKat in stores, especially during the high-demand Easter period. Nestlé has also warned that the stolen products might appear in unauthorized markets across Europe.
To tackle the issue, the company highlighted that each chocolate bar carries a unique batch code, which can be used to track the stolen goods if they surface in the market.
Authorities continue efforts to recover the shipment as concerns grow among retailers and consumers.
