ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has denied the news of a new tax on solar panels.
According to the agency, no new tax has been imposed on the solar energy sector, nor has it led to an increase in electricity rates.
FBR officials say that solar systems have played an important role in saving the public from expensive electricity. Along with this, this system is also proving helpful in promoting alternative energy in the country.
During a technical briefing on the budget 2026-27, FBR member Hamid Atiq Sarwar said that the government has set a tax collection target of Rs 15,264 billion for the next fiscal year. To achieve this target, instead of imposing new taxes, attention is being paid to improving the existing system.
He said that the government’s focus is on expanding the tax net and making the tax collection system effective. For this, enforcement measures are also being tightened and streamlined to increase revenues.
