FBR slashes customs values on used iPhones, Samsung phones, prices set to drop

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Valuation under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has updated the customs values ​​of old and used mobile phones of 62 different models, which is expected to result in a significant reduction in the prices of mobile phones and PTA tax.

According to the FBR, this move has been taken to align duties and taxes with the actual prices prevailing in the global market, while the new customs values ​​​​are effective from January 16, 2026.

Which mobile phones will be affected?

These changes will apply specifically to old and used models of Apple, Samsung, Google Pixel and OnePlus.

For example, the customs value of a used iPhone 15 Pro Max has been set at around $ 460.

According to the notification issued for Samsung phones, the value of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is Rs71,000, S23 Plus and S22 Ultra is Rs45,000, and S22 Plus is Rs21,000.

The customs value of used iPhones is now between $95 and $295, while the value of Samsung phones is between $40 and $255. It should be noted that the phone should be without packaging and additional accessories.

This facility is only for old and used mobile phones, while the tax and customs values ​​​​on new mobile phones will remain as before. Users can find out the estimated tax levied on their phones through the tax calculator on the official website of PTA.

According to experts associated with the mobile phone market, the reduction in customs values ​​will have a direct impact on market prices, as most expensive smartphones, especially iPhone and Samsung models, are imported from abroad in used or open-box condition.

According to traders, after this decision, the prices of iPhone 13, 14 and 15 series, including Samsung S22 and S23 series phones, are expected to decrease by Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000, while the total tax on some expensive models may decrease by Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000, especially in the case of registration through passport.

According to them, the PTA tax on iPhone 15 series has now come down to about Rs 31,640 (passport) and Rs 34,101 (identity card).
