LAHORE: The price of chicken meat has been reduced by Rs 22 per kilogram. According to the market committee, the retail rate of broiler meat has been fixed at Rs 504 per kilogram after the reduction.
However, despite the official price list, overcharging continues across the city and broiler meat is being sold at more than the fixed price in many areas.
The official price of live broiler chicken is Rs 320 per kilogram at the farm rate, Rs 334 per kilogram at the wholesale rate, while the retail rate is Rs 348 per kilogram, but in practice, consumers are having to pay more.
Meanwhile, egg prices have remained stable. According to the official price list, the retail rate of eggs has been fixed at Rs 350 per dozen, while a carton of eggs is being sold at Rs 9,909 in the wholesale market.
Citizens have termed the reduction in the price of chicken meat as welcome but insufficient, saying that this reduction is very low compared to inflation.
The administration says that actions against overcharging are ongoing, but consumers have demanded that effective and permanent measures be taken to achieve real price stability.
