LAHORE: Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 2025, Pakistan has witnessed a trend of increasing ghee prices.
The price of first and second grade ghee has increased by Rs 6 per kg in retail and wholesale markets of different cities.
The price of first grade ghee in the wholesale market has reached Rs 595 per kg, while the price of second grade ghee is between Rs 540 and Rs 550.
Tahir Thaqleen Butt, President of the Grocery Merchants Association, told the media that companies will first increase prices and later announce a reduction in them during Ramadan only to cheat people.
He urged the administration to keep a close eye on ghee manufacturing companies. He pointed out that despite soybean and palm oil being cheaper in the global market, ghee prices are increasing in the local market.
