Govt issues reason behind petrol price increase

Govt raises petroleum levy on petrol by Rs15.86 per litre in one week

ISLAMABAD: The reasons for the increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel have been revealed.
The prices of petroleum products were increased due to an increase in government taxes and inland freight equalization margins.

Despite a decrease in the ex-refinery cost of petrol and high-speed diesel, the government increased the prices of both products by Rs 26.77 per liter.

If the levy tax on petrol and the IFE margin on diesel had not been increased, the prices would not have increased.
The ex-refinery price of high-speed diesel decreased by Rs 3.44 per liter and the ex-refinery price of petrol by Rs 3.14 per liter in a week after April 18, but the government increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 26.77 per liter.
