ISLAMABAD: The government has announced a reduction in the prices of jet fuel and kerosene, in contrast to the increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel.
According to the details, the price of jet fuel used in commercial aviation has been reduced by Rs 7.76 per liter, after which its new price has been reduced from Rs 396.31 to Rs 388.58 per liter. According to experts, the reduction in the price of jet fuel may provide some relief to the airline industry, however, it is too early to say whether its effects will be immediately reflected in the form of a reduction in air fares.
Similarly, the price of kerosene has also been reduced by Rs 4.45 per liter. The new price has been reduced from Rs 365.21 to Rs 360.76 per liter. Kerosene is commonly used for domestic use in remote areas, so the reduction is expected to provide some relief to those segments of the population who still rely on this fuel.
On the other hand, the government has significantly increased the prices of the most widely used fuels among petroleum products, namely petrol and high-speed diesel. The price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs 19.39 per liter, after which its price has increased from Rs 380.19 to Rs 399.58 per liter. Similarly, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 6.51 per liter and the new price has been fixed from Rs 393.35 to Rs 399.86 per liter.
The price of light diesel oil has also been increased by Rs 17.3 per liter, after which its price has increased from Rs 270.51 to Rs 287.54 per liter. Experts say that the increase in diesel and petrol prices could further increase the prices of transport, food items and other essential goods, which is expected to increase inflation.
