ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the price of jet fuel used by commercial airlines by Rs48.80 per litre, offering significant relief to the aviation sector and raising expectations of lower airfares in the coming weeks.

According to aviation sources, the latest reduction has brought the new price of jet fuel down to Rs283.52 per litre.

Industry experts say fuel expenses account for a substantial portion of an airline’s operating costs. As a result, the decrease in jet fuel prices is expected to ease financial pressure on airlines and improve operational efficiency.

The development has also sparked hopes of a reduction in domestic and international airfares. However, aviation officials noted that any decision regarding ticket prices will be taken by individual airlines after reviewing their operational costs and market conditions.

Sources further stated that the government has implemented a significant reduction in jet fuel prices in recent months, a move being welcomed by stakeholders in the aviation industry.

Analysts believe the lower fuel costs could support airline profitability, encourage passenger traffic and provide some relief to travelers if the savings are passed on through reduced fares.

The latest cut comes as global energy markets continue to witness fluctuations influenced by geopolitical developments and changing demand patterns.
