ISLAMABAD: In a welcome move, the federal government is poised to announce a substantial reduction in petrol and diesel prices from September 16, 2024, amidst a declining inflation rate and global oil prices.
According to reports, petrol, and high-speed diesel prices are likely to plummet by Rs12 per litre each, while kerosene oil rates will drop by Rs8 per litre.
The final decision on the price decrease will be made after monitoring international market fluctuations from September 12 to 14. The government is expected to unveil the new petrol prices on September 15, with the revised rates taking effect from September 16.
The government’s decision to pass on the benefits of lower global oil prices to consumers is a positive step towards mitigating the impact of inflation on the common man.
Currently, the per litre petrol rate stands at Rs259.1 while high-speed diesel is available for Rs262.75 till September 15 in Pakistan.
| Product | Ex-Depot Rates |
| Petrol | Rs259.1 |
| Diesel | Rs262.75 |
This significant price drop is expected to bring relief to consumers and contribute to the country’s economic growth, as Pakistan continues to grapple with inflationary pressures.
If approved by the government, the petrol price in Pakistan is expected to drop significantly to Rs247.1 per litre from September 16, marking a reduction of Rs12 per litre. This decrease is anticipated for the second fortnight of the month.
In addition, the diesel price is also likely to witness a substantial decline of Rs12 per litre, bringing the per litre rate down to Rs225.75, pending government approval.

These projected price drops are a result of the government’s efforts to pass on the benefits of lower global oil prices to consumers, providing much-needed relief amidst inflationary pressures.
The final decision on the price reduction is awaited, with the new rates expected to take effect from September 16.
