ISLAMABAD: Gold and the stock market turned out to be the best-performing investment categories in Pakistan during the year 2025.

In a report by Topline Securities, gold turned out to be the best performer of the year, posting a staggering return of 73% between January 1st and December 24th, 2025.

The price of gold in Pakistan skyrocketed from PKR 233,711 to PKR 405,402 for every 10 grams, while the international prices rose from $2,612 per ounce at the end of the year 2024 to $4,503 per ounce as of December 26, 2025.

The KSE-100 Index came second as the second-best performing asset with a total return of 48%.

This performance was attributed to active market activities and confidence among investors, with only four trading sessions remaining in the year when reports were submitted.

The performance of the stock market received an additional boost with dividends included in the gains to make it very attractive to potential investors.

It remained a preferred investment avenue in real estate, especially in the prime metropolises like DHA Karachi and DHA Lahore. The price for commercial plots located in such areas increased by an average of 18 percent, while residential plots saw an increase of 15 percent each, as recorded from Zameen.com.

House prices in these areas also moved upward, but at a snail’s pace, averaging 8%.

The yield of the Naya Pakistan PKR Certificate, available through the Roshan Digital Account, generated on investments made at the beginning of 2025 came in at 22%. Another government-backed investment product, the Naya Pakistan US Dollar Certificate, had a return of 10% during the same period.

Government securities also fared well, with a return of 14% delivered by PIBs and 12% by both 3-month as well as 1-year Treasury Bills. The SSC produced the same returns with a first-year gain of 12%. Local mutual funds gave an average return of 11%, while average bank savings deposits returned 9%.
