NEPRA announces net metering regulations 2026

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification of Net Metering Regulations 2026.

According to the notification, a net billing system has been introduced under the new regulations, and the new net metering regulations will also apply to biogas consumers.

According to the regulations, a bill will be issued under the billing system at the end of the billing cycle, and electricity will be purchased from net metering consumers according to the National Average Energy Price.

The regulations state that net metering consumers will be provided electricity at the current prevailing tariff, and consumers will be paid every quarter for additional electricity supplied to the national grid.

The contract period for net metering has been limited to 5 years, while after the contract expires, it will be renewed for another 5 years. After the new regulations, the Net Metering Regulations 2015 will be suspended.
