No hike in electricity prices likely in June, says Power Division

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has given good news to consumers, saying that with timely measures, there will be no increase in electricity prices in June.

The Power Division spokesperson said that electricity consumers have been saved from the burden of monthly fuel adjustment of Rs 5 to 6 per unit, despite the shutdown of LNG and the use of expensive furnace oil, there will be no additional burden on electricity consumers.

The Power Division spokesperson said that the Power Division has saved consumers from a potential additional burden of Rs 38 billion, the monthly fuel adjustment has been stopped at an increase of Rs 1.73 per unit.

The spokesperson said that consumers have been given relief due to the increase in electricity demand and the special package, and load management has been reduced by additional supply of local gas and production of imported coal plants.

He said that in the first quarter, it has been possible to refund Rs 65 billion to electricity consumers. Thanks to the first quarter adjustment, consumers were given a relief of Rs 1.93 per unit. The quarterly adjustment has completely eliminated the effects of the monthly fuel adjustment.

The spokesperson said that despite the extremely difficult circumstances, further relief has also been provided. There will be no increase in the reference tariff next month. Consumers are also expected to get relief of about 20 paise per unit.
