KARACHI: Pakistan has recorded an increase of 20.5 percent in the export of seafood products during the fiscal year of 2024-25, according to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhary.
The products are worth $498.2 million during fiscal year 2024-25, as per media reports on Monday.
The minister announced these statistics while releasing the annual report about seafood exports of the country during the previous fiscal year 2024-25.
China and Thailand are major buyers of Pakistani seafood products, said the Food Minister.
The federal minister credited the comprehensive and effective export policy of the current government for rising seafood exports.
Fish meal, prawn, mackerel, crab, and jellyfish are the most prominent items among seafood exports. He said that Pakistan is becoming a hub of seafood exports.
According to Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, a key factor in the success of the seafood export strategy was the incorporation of the value-addition policy.
He said that the growth of marine products was also significantly influenced by the private sector. According to Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, foreign consumers are becoming more interested in Pakistani seafood goods.
