LAHORE: A consultative meeting was held to discuss the establishment of a real estate regulatory framework and the proposed reforms under the RERA Act in Punjab.
The session was jointly organized by the Punjab Real Estate Regulatory Authority and the Lahore Development Authority and was attended by stakeholders from the public and private sectors, including academia, town planners, developers and real estate representatives.
Senior Member Board of Revenue Nabeel Javed, DG PELRA Capt (retd) Ikram-ul-Haq and DG LDA Tahir Farooq attended the meeting along with officials from the concerned departments.
Addressing the participants, Nabeel Javed said that the Chief Minister has tasked the officials to introduce reforms in the housing and real estate sector.
He added that after months of consultation with the private sector, a uniform regulatory system is being formulated for implementation across the province.
Under the proposed framework, all property transactions will be done through PELRA software and verified through a “green certificate” system.
Developers will be required to migrate to the new digital system within a month, while a facilitation cell will be set up to assist housing schemes and developers.
The officials also apprised the participants about the amendments in the housing scheme rules, including plans to make the approval process completely paperless and digital.
The new system will enable monitoring of land availability, scheme plans and land development activities.
The framework aims to ensure transparency across all districts, streamline approvals and introduce effective monitoring.
Officials said a housing scheme management system has already been developed to support the migration to a paperless system.
The session concluded with a question and answer session, where officials addressed concerns raised by stakeholders. The meeting was held at the LDA Sports Complex, Gulberg.
