LAHORE: Chicken, mutton, and beef are widely consumed during Ramadan due to their nutritional value, as people prepare special dishes that keep them full during the fast.
With the widespread consumption, the demand for chicken and beef for iftar and sehri has also increased. To ensure transparency, the Lahore district administration has fixed prices for all items to regulate the market during the month, but people lament the significant difference between these rates and the actual selling prices.
The price of beef in Lahore has increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1150-1200 per kg, while the price of mutton in Lahore during Ramadan reached Rs 2400-1400 per kg.
Despite the official prices, consumers are reporting that beef and mutton are being sold at higher prices. The fluctuation in meat prices is a result of increased demand during Ramadan, however, authorities are urging local butchers and shopkeepers to adhere to the official prices to avoid consumer exploitation.
