35 Pakistani universities feature in QS World Rankings 2026

ISLAMABAD: A total of 35 Pakistani universities have secured positions in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, released recently. Public-sector institutions make up 31 of the total universities, while the remaining four belong to the private sector, which demonstrates how government universities lead in producing research and maintaining international academic standing.

The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) achieved the top engineering and technology public university ranking by placing between 201 and 250, while its computer science program attained a 201 to 300 ranking. Quaid-i-Azam University maintained a strong position in natural sciences (201-250) while achieving a ranking between 250-400 in physics and environmental sciences.

The University of the Punjab achieved international recognition in business, social sciences, and agriculture, reaching a global ranking between 201 and 400 in multiple academic fields.

The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore achieved strong results in engineering disciplines, as most of its programs fell within the 251-400 range, which confirmed its status as a technical education institution.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (top 200 globally in Agriculture & Forestry), University of Karachi (Chemistry and Biological Sciences 301-400), and Comsats University Islamabad (Computer Science 201-250, Engineering 251-300) represent the most important public universities.

The private sector recognized Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) as its leading institution for business and management, which achieved a ranking between 101-150, thus becoming one of the best-performing universities in Pakistan across all subjects.
