ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is now introducing three new Bachelor of Science degrees: BS E-Commerce, BS Psychology, and BS Political Science.

These new additions, falling under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, are intended to give students further diversified study opportunities.

The new courses were given the nod at a recent Faculty Board meeting, which was chaired by Dean Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir. The board also approved revised study plans for undergraduate, MPhil, PhD, and other postgraduate programs in various departments.

A Monday press release underlined the fact that the conference also addressed curriculum revisions, such as revising current courses and adding new ones to be more in line with prevailing academic and industry standards.

Dr. Sahir underlined that all academic programs will comply with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies. He confirmed the university’s focus on quality education under Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.

He further added that, as per government orders, Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi courses have already been included in all degree programs. Soon, AIOU will launch courses on Pakistani languages to commemorate and highlight the country’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

Faculty members were directed to verify that all new programs have requisite credit hours and policy requirements before they are presented to the Academic Council for final approval.

Moreover, Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak gave a presentation on the proposed Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025, aimed at both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and on-campus students. The proposal was unanimously approved by the faculty.

All Faculty Board recommendations and decisions will be placed before the Academic Council and Executive Council in future sessions for formal approval.
