KARACHI: In a recent educational development, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has decided not to charge the scrutiny fee for those inter part-I students who express dissatisfaction with results.

This was decided after receiving a call from Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh. The details were conveyed by BIEK chairman Dr.Syed Sharaf Ali Shah, who instructed that scrutiny should be done for all papers of students dissatisfied with their results for several groups, namely Science Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and Commerce Private.

The chairman ordered the controller of examinations to finish the scrutiny process within 30 days. To facilitate the scrutiny process for students, special counters were set up, and students could also download the scrutiny form from the official BIEK website.

This move was born out of a crisis surrounding the 2024 results of the intermediate part-I annual examinations that led to the firing of BIEK’s then chairman, Ameer Qadri.

In the course of all this, many students failed in pre-engineering and pre-medical groups and are submitting scrutiny forms in large numbers, registering their protests at the outcome.

They lament that this result is extremely disappointing; from this cohort of less than 50 whose matriculation scores stated greater than 80-have now not even scored up to 50 marks in the intermediate afterward.

An inquiry committee has been set up by the BIEK to address the grievances of these students, and of course, the nullification of the scrutiny fee is an ameliorative step concerned in this connection.
