KARACHI: The Islamic Jamiat Talibat cited disappointment in the low pass percentage of 33% in the results of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah Board of Intermediate Education of Karachi and demanded an exemption from paying scrutiny fees.

Sindh Nazima of Islamic Jamiat Talibat, Halima Sadiya, said that the Sindh boards work much better than the Karachi board, which has been recorded at over 80%.

This raised questions about the quality of education in the city. She has demanded that the authorities stop commercialization in education and then formulate a committee representing Karachi stakeholders to look into the problems with the Intermediate results.

After the controversies arose regarding the results of the Karachi Intermediate Board, the chairman of the board was dismissed, and now worries concerning the performance of the inspection department, which oversees affiliated colleges in the city, have set in.

The steep decline in pass rates has suggested serious problems with the city’s college education system and led to demands for a fresh collection of papers and a full waiver of the scrutiny fee.

The Islamic Jamiat Talibat welcomed the beginning of the scrutiny but emphasized that much more needs to be done to address the concerns of students and parents. Before long, protests and debates exploded around the situation, wherein students and parents raised their voices in favor of the need to bring some clarity and fairness back into the examination system.

The Sindh government has taken the matter seriously and removed the chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi, as it was found that he took an unauthorized foreign tour.

The Karachi Intermediate Board’s results have long been a source of much practicality, and a few past cases of tampering with them have been caused by the apparent low pass rates. This has seriously raised concerns about the examination regime and the quality of education in Karachi.
