PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to rename the Journalism Department of the University of Peshawar after the late journalist Arshad Sharif.

This development comes on the orders of Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur in recognition of Arshad Sharif’s contributions to journalism and democracy in the country.

Provincial Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi said the government has ordered the University to rename the department as soon as possible, and measures are being taken in an emergency to execute the decision.

Arshad Sharif was assassinated in Kenya on October 23, and his death has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice. The Constitutional Bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin, has granted the federal government a one-month extension to investigate the case, with the hearing postponed for a month.
