LAHORE: As the days pass, the students in Punjab are becoming anxious about whether the matric exams of 2026 will be delayed amid Ramadan approaching.

Amid wide concerns among hundreds of thousands, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore is reportedly considering delaying the start of annual matric exams due to Ramadan 2026.

Instead of starting on March 1, Matric exams may now start after Eid-ul-Fitr, on March 27. Lahore Board submitted a formal request to educational authorities, with the final decision pending approval from the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairpersons.

The move sparked controversy among students. Many argue that exams should stick to the original March 1 schedule, suggesting only a one-week Eid break, pointing out that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) begins March 23, which could wreak havoc on exam timetables.

Punjab is also gearing up for the return of 8th-grade board exams after a four-year pause. Reports confirm that the Punjab Examination Commission (PECA) and Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat have finalized the schedule, aiming for a province-wide, unified exam pattern.

Students are bracing for what could be a historic showdown over exam dates, with tension building as the holiday season approaches.
