Previous to this, poor weather—specifically, a lot of rain and snow in the area—had forced the closure of educational institutions in Sawat and Upper Dir. The Deputy Commissioner of Upper Dir released a statement indicating that the region’s high levels of precipitation and snowfall had caused all roads and pathways to become blocked. For this reason, Upper Dir’s educational institutions will stay closed until Friday, March 8, 2024. Additionally, as of March 9, 2024, schools in Swat are already shuttered.
