Cargo ship sinks off Ormara, all 20 crew rescued by Pak Navy

ORMARA: The cargo ship Al-Hamdan Yaqoob sank in the sea near Ormara in Balochistan, but all 20 crew members were rescued due to the timely operation of the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA).

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistan Navy and PMSA conducted the second successful rescue operation in 24 hours and rescued 20 Pakistani crew members from the cargo ship that sank in the open sea near Ormara.

According to the statement, the cargo ship ‘Al-Hamdan Yaqoob’ sank due to water filling the engine room. There were 20 crew members on board the ship, all of whom were Pakistani citizens. However, the Pakistan Navy ship PNS Haneen arrived in time and rescued all the crew members.

The ISPR said that the Pakistan Navy’s Sea King helicopter and the PMSA’s Defender ship also participated in the rescue operation.

The statement said that the cargo ship capsized 32 nautical miles south of Ormara, and all 20 rescued people are being provided with first aid.

The ISPR said that the Pakistan Navy has once again proven its professionalism through timely and effective action.
