Election field set in Gilgit-Baltistan, polling begins in 24 constituencies

GILGIT: Elections are being held today for 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The polling process began at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break.

A tough competition is expected between the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Muslim League (N) and independent candidates in the elections. According to the Election Commission, a total of 404 candidates are contesting in 24 constituencies, including 396 men and 8 women.

23 candidates from the PPP and 22 from the Muslim League (N) are in the election field, while the largest number of 266 independent candidates are also trying their luck.

1389 polling stations and 2450 polling booths have been set up across Gilgit-Baltistan for the elections. Of these, 1112 are for women, 1268 are for men, and 68 are joint polling booths.

According to the Election Commission, more than 958,000 registered voters will exercise their right to vote. Strict security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order during the election process.
