KARACHI: A case of Congo virus has been confirmed in Karachi, the first such case in the city this year, here on Wednesday.
A 32-year-old patient was admitted to Jinnah Hospital after high fever and diarrhoea.
Hospital officials confirmed that the patient had tested positive for Congo virus. He has been shifted to the hospital’s ICU.
Congo virus is usually reported during the Eid al-Adha festival, when there is a large influx of animals. This virus is transmitted from animals to humans and can spread from person to person.
It should be noted that a 42-year-old resident of Eastern district of Karachi was also diagnosed with Congo virus in November 2023.
Health officials are urging residents to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, including avoiding contact with animals, especially during the Eid al-Adha season.
