PESHAWAR: About 300,000 people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been treated for free in other provinces for medical services through the health insurance program of Sehat Card Plus.
ARFDB records also reveal that over the last four years, since the program’s inception in the year 2016, over five million people have availed themselves of the benefits of treatment worth Rs. 150 billion.
The beneficiaries can receive cashless treatments and diagnostic services at 700 empaneled hospitals across the country with the national identity cards issued by the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Total beneficiaries: 294,287 patients accessed care in other regions. The largest number went to Punjab, Islamabad, Karachi, and Balochistan, while a small number accessed services in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The provincial government has expended RS. 1.229 billion on such treatments to hospitals outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to officials in the health department, many of the beneficiaries are residing outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for reasons related to jobs or due to a lack of such treatments in the province.
This program involves free transplant services for other organs. These are kidney transplants, liver transplants, and cochlear transplants. A total of 235 kidney transplants, 80 liver transplants, and 71 cochlear transplants have been conducted. Sehat Card Plus is now covering 11 million families and enabling free treatment of up to PKR 1 million per year for every family in the entire Pakistan.
