PESHAWAR: On Monday, the Election Tribunal of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) reversed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to reject the nomination papers of Khurram Zeeshan, Azam Swati, and Murad Saeed, three leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Following the acceptance of their appeals, the three PTI leaders will be able to run in the April 2 Senate elections.

Appeals contesting the approval of nomination papers submitted by Fida Muhammad Khan, Robina Khalid, Qaisar Khan, and Daulat Khan of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Shazia of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, and Azhar Mashwani of the PTI, were, nevertheless, denied, thereby verifying the authenticity of their papers.

Concerns regarding the rejection of nomination papers were voiced during the hearing presided over by Justice Shakeel Ahmad.

Legal counsel contested the rejection, pointing to documentation that disproved claims made in the nomination documents about property hiding and forgery.

The PTI leaders’ path to election participation was cleared when the panel ruled in their favor.

On the other hand, challenges regarding the approval of nomination papers from other parties were turned down, confirming their candidacy for the polls.
