KARACHI: Great news has come out for citizens troubled by e-challans, where the Sindh government has indicated that it will eliminate some e-challans while reviewing traffic rules.

Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed said in her statement that there was a lot of opposition to the implementation of the e-challan system initially, however, the government is taking steps to make the system more effective and people-friendly.

She said that it has been suggested to the Sindh Chief Minister that the e-challans issued for not wearing seat belts and helmets be eliminated so that the financial burden on low-income citizens can be reduced.

Sadia Javed said that not all vehicles in Karachi are equipped with dash cams, while 100% trackers cannot be installed in water tankers. She said that in some cases, heavy fines are being imposed and criminal cases are also being registered in some cases.

She added that despite the strike by public transporters, the government did not give in to pressure. According to him, fines for overspeeding have been increased from two to two and a half lakh rupees.

The Sindh government spokesperson claimed that compared to last year, there has been a decrease in traffic accidents and killings during robbery and resistance this year, while traffic rules are being made stricter to prevent accidents.

Regarding the water shortage in Karachi, Sadia Javed said that even the K-4 project will not be enough to meet the city’s growing water needs.
