Ramadan 2024: Pakistan to observer first fast likely on March 12

Less than two weeks remain until the start of Ramadan. It is most likely that the holy month will begin on March 12.

According to the Meteorological Department, the Ramadan moon will rise on March 10 and be visible the next day.

According to meteorologist Jawad Memon, although the Ramadan moon will rise on March 10, it will not be visible at that time and till March 11 it will be visible only with the naked eye. Taraweeh will take place on the night of March 11, while there is a 95% probability that the first fast will take place on March 12.

Like every other year, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Islamabad with meetings of zonal committees – to receive and review moon sighting reports and to announce the sighting of the moon.

Celebrated with passion and fervor, millions of Pakistanis as well as billions of Muslims around the world will be observed fasting from dawn to sunset with fasting hours ranging from 12 to 17 hours – across the country. It depends on the geographical location.

Like many other Islamic countries, Ramadan in Pakistan is marked by increased charity and public food drives, with people setting up roadside stalls for people coming home in the evening.

The month typically sees heightened commercial activity as a result of religious holidays and purchasing trends in the run-up to Eid ul Fitr.
