Social media activist killed in G-9/4, Islamabad

Muhammad Bilai Khan, a 22 year old blogger and social media activist was killed by unidentified assailants in sector G-9/4, Islamabad, late Sunday night. The Islamabad Police superintendent Malik Naeem confirmed the news, saying the incident took place on Sunday evening. According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by his father on Sunday night, Bilal received a call while he was at his cousin’s house at Bhara Kahu. The man on the phone called him to meet in G-9/4, he went along with his cousin to the sector where the unidentified man took them into a forest, according to his cousin. The assailant attacked them with a sharp knife and Khan was badly injured in the attack. He was taken by his cousin, who was also injured in the attack, to the PIMS hosptial where Bilal succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Sunday night.

A student of International Islamic University, Bilal was known to openly express his views and criticize notable figures in Politics, Military and even some of the religious figures. Some people including his close friends who knew him well said that he was killed due to his criticism of the powerful Pakistan Army.  He had over 49,000 subscribers on YouTube, 17,000 followers on Twitter and 1,635 followers on Instagram. Police took the late activist’s cell phone as evidence and it is currently being accessed for any information related to the sad incident.
